    Wow. Thanks for sharing about Harold Washington, the first black mayor. Glad that he is not forgotten. 1983 was so different back then. Look in 20 years of what the Gerbil has done in this country.

    And Eugene Sawyer was another black mayor (interum) after Washington dropped dead in office, Sawyer passed out and had to be propped up to accept the nomination for interum Mayor, after an all nighter meeting. And then the former alderman, lady with the hats, Dorothy Tillman, who lost last election grabbing out a picture of the Mayor Washington off the wall at an art exhibit.....then came the second Mayor Daley...

    A City College is named after him, a Library, in the Loop, and on the south side a cultural center.
